The goal of knowing your Enneagram type is to help you better understand yourself and enrich your personal development. There is no "better" or "worse" type. Each type and each person has its own assets.
The Enneagram is a model structuring the human personality from 9 different types of functioning related to the directions of three centers of intelligence (mental, emotional and instinctive) that we all possess. Each enneagram type is based on unconscious fears, desires seeking to compensate for them, and expresses a unique way in which the three centers of intelligence interact with each other.
The enneagram is not just a simple personality test categorizing 9 different types of functioning: It admits a system of influence of neighboring types (the wings) and several levels of sanity within each type (which can lead towards a type of integration or disintegration). Thus two persons of the same type, according to the manner in which they manage their compulsion and the degree of influence of the neighboring types, can be very different.
